I'm Heather, and I love to eat...I also love to feed people.
I don’t really love the mental load that comes with feeding my family, let alone trying to eat “healthy” 80% of the time, save money, and reduce food waste, and...and...and...
As a parent to an Autistic teenager, a wife, a full-time employee, and a swim-Mom who enjoys spending my free time surfing and playing at the beach, I have a finite amount of time to dedicate to feeding my family. I do my best to eat healthy, but I also don’t like to think of foods as “good or bad”, and let’s be honest — I love all the “bad” food. If you ask me what's for dinner, I'm likely to tell you something like "Salmon with a dill-ish sauce and roasted red potatoes and asparagus." ← I wrote this while asparagus is in season.
To save time, money, reduce food waste, and know what we’re consuming (for the most part), I use my weekly meal plan and prep program. I’ve been using the program for so long that it’s become a core system in my household because it saves me in so many ways, and I have stacks of notebooks with plans and shopping lists to prove it!
For decades, I've tried all sorts of meal plans and meal-prepping strategies (trust me, I am a Pinterest junkie), and nothing really worked for me.
My son is super picky, and I often prepare separate meals for him. Also, as a competitive swimmer, from mid-February through November, he eats small meals before and after practice. My husband helps in the kitchen by doing dishes and trusting my system.
I approach feeding my family like I would a work project. I simplify my plan, prepare for a day or two ahead, and reclaim (insert reason you're looking for a new meal plan template) without feeling like I'm cutting too many corners…and I would argue that we eat pretty well. (coyly pats myself on the back)
Not everything on my personal weekly menu is made from scratch (my son's diet is supplemented by daily multivitamins), but I do try to prepare meals using as few processed foods as possible. My weekly program varies because elements of my household and lifestyle vary week to week. And that’s why it works…
I'm so assured in my process that I am overwhelmed to start a business in "all my free time".
Together, let's build meal programs and build a community!
